Twitter Co-Founder and CEO Jack Dorsey left liberty Twitter reeling when he posted a Mises Institute link to the book “Anatomy of the State” by famed Anarcho-Capitalist philosopher Murray N. Rothbard Friday night.

No one seems to know for sure what this means, but libertarians of all backgrounds are tweeting their support of the company’s CEO tweeting a link to the foundational book of one of the major schools of thought in Libertarianism.

Jack’s tweet has garnered approval from some prominent named Libertarian individuals and organizations, including former Congressman Justin Amash, 2020 LP vice-presidential candidate Spike Cohen, the Libertarian Party’s Mises Caucus, 2022 GA LP gubernatorial candidate Shane Hazel and many official accounts for several state branches of the Libertarian Party.

Some members of the liberty community joined in the thread to call for the Twitter CEO to cease his censorship of the liberty movement online and create a space that honors the spirit of the first amendment and the American tradition of free speech.

The LP Mises Caucus even posted a screenshot of #Rothbard trending on Twitter nearly three hours after Jack tweeted out the link to a free online copy of “Anatomy of the State” published on Mises.org.

Is the CEO of one the largest tech giants on the yellow brick road of libertarianism to AnCapistan? Only time will tell, but one thing is sure—this single act promoted the ideas of liberty, peace, and free markets—and that’s something worth celebrating.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey proposed a plan Wednesday night that could potentially make moderating the giant company’s enormous platform a relic of the past.

The tech giant is spearheading a coalition of researchers to construct an open and decentralized network that would, if successful, make Twitter one of several clients for the standard. Dorsey, for his part, said the network could potentially take years if not decades to fully implement.

Dorsey laid out in a series of tweets his reasoning for building out what he is calling BlueSky.

“Centralized enforcement of global policy to address abuse and misleading information is unlikely to scale over the long-term without placing far too much burden on people,” he wrote in the Wednesday post. BlueSky would help bypass this necessity, according to Dorsey.

He points to a type of technology called blockchain, which contains an expanding record of blocks of information linked using cryptography, that could implement “open and durable hosting, governance, and even monetization,” Dorsey noted in the Twitter thread.

Such a plan offers Twitter the opportunity to avoid moderation of the kind that angers conservatives and liberals. If Twitter is just one client among a larger number of interconnected groups, for instance, then the company would be less responsible for what people post online.

Dorsey does not explicitly make this argument in his thread.

Twitter has temporarily suspended several conservative users over content matters. One person, who calls himself Carpe Donktum, was suspendedafter creating a meme mocking CNN’s Jim Acosta, which supposedly violated the company’s policies. Donktum is a supporter of President Donald Trump.

A senior member of Trump’s presidential campaign told reporters in May that the president was looking into joining Parler, a fledgling social media network created in 2018 that caters to conservatives.

The structure of the Parler app is similar to that of Twitter. User posts are limited to 1,000 characters, which other users can then support by “voting” and “echoing,” as opposed to “liking” and “retweeting.” Dorsey’s proposal is receiving lukewarm support among technologists.

“Realistically I don’t think this is going to go anywhere; most of these kinds of projects fail. What I’m worried about is that it is going to be a big distraction,” computer programmer and bot creator, Darius Kazemi, told reporters Wednesday.

Other academics were more optimistic.

“There are layers and layers with this. I think @jack is likely moves ahead here,” Eric Weinstein, an economist and managing director of Thiel Capital, said on Twitter Wednesday in response to Dorsey’s rollout.

He added: “Don’t let your frustrations with current Twitter and it’s Terms of Service or Trust & Safety issues blind you to what is likely to be the fate of social media.” Weinstein is a critic of the idea that social media media companies like Twitter can properlymoderate platforms at scale.

A brief yet chaotic scene unfolded on Twitter Friday when Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s own account was hacked.

A series of attacks in the last week of August called “Chuckling Squad Hacks” appears to have gained access to people’s phones via AT&T SIM Card replacements. Several high profile individuals have fallen victim this way, so far.

An entry on Know Your Meme details the extent of Chuckling Squad:

“Chuckling Squad Hacks refers to a series of hacks performed via AT&T sim card replacement on popular YouTubers and Actors James Charles, King Bach, Etika, Amanda Cerny and Shane Dawson and Jack Dorsey. The hacker, who repeatedly included the phrase “chuckling RN” on Twitter and Instagram bios, hacked accounts over a two day period in August 2019 and posted numerous offensive tweets, videos, and images to their accounts.”

Hacking Twitter’s CEO’s own Twitter account certainly ups the ante. While the hacker only had a few minutes of access, they did a good deal of damage.

While the Tweets have since been removed from the platform, the internet is forever.

The hacker attempted to get the hashtag #ChucklingSquad trending from Jack Dorsey’s account.

More arbitrarily, Dorsey’s account tweeted that Hitler was innocent, and prompted people to follow Twitter handle @taytaylov3r.

That account has since been suspended.

Still, the hacker used their brief amount of time to Tweet “Fuck Niggers” from the CEO’s account.

Next, the hacker used his hold over the platform to issue demands directly to Dorsey, apparently requesting three small suspended accounts be returned to working order.

It is unknown whether the hacker has any connections to those accounts.

But if you have control of the Twitter CEO’s account, why not post a bomb threat to Twitter HQ, from Twitter’s owner?

Dorsey’s account also retweeted a few choice tweets from other handles.

One Twitter user tagged Twitter Support telling them to “come get your mans.”

Twitter acknowledged that the CEO’s account had been hacked.

But if the Twitter CEO’s own Twitter account can be hacked, is anyone’s Twitter account really safe?

Imagine someone taking over Donald Trump’s Twitter account, whose Tweets have been known to significantly affect the stock market. Imagine the amount of damage someone could do in a very small amount of time.
